The first report on the status of Missouri agriculture is coming out soon from the Governor’s Food, Beverage, and Forestry Manufacturing Task Force.
Missouri Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe is chairman of the task force, “We’ve listened to hundreds and hundreds of different stakeholders. From family farmers to suppliers to end users and everything in between. From all of those industries – from the forest products industries, from the commodity industries, from the animal production industry, et cetera.”
Kehoe says the next step for the task force is to focus on future opportunities, “We are going to put forward real recommendations, suggestions that we think are very doable in the state, in our family farms to increase that agricultural production and meet that world food demand we talked about so it’s very exciting.”
The Task Force is built on a University of Missouri report involving state commodity and farm groups that shows Missouri has an 88 Billion dollar ag industry with the potential for 20 to 25 Billion dollars in growth to meet future demands of a growing population.
Kehoe is a first generation farmer and has taken a special interest in ag issues. Hear our complete interview with the Lieutenant Governor at the Brownfield Ag News studios in Jefferson City, Missouri below.
